FLU SHOTS
Vaccination is the best protection
The flu vaccine is safe and effective. It reduces your risk of catching the flu and your risk of suffering serious complications. It’s especially important for those at higher risk of complications to get their flu shot. This includes pregnant women, adults 65 and older and those with chronic medical conditions (e.g., diabetes, asthma, heart disease).
Clearing up misconceptions
- The flu shot doesn’t give you the flu. The shot can cause similar symptoms, but these are simply signs the immune system is working to build protection against the virus.
- The flu is not the same as a cold. The flu can cause serious issues, like pneumonia, difficulty breathing and/or dehydration. In rare cases, the flu can be deadly.
- Even if you're not high-risk for complications, the flu shot can protect those around you who might be.
